A Dedicated Headset for ICOM IC-7300   November 25th, 2016

Many ham operators are now using headsets for base station operation. This permits hands free operation, or permits the operation of a PC and logging programs.  etc.

Here is a dedicated headset ready wired to go straight into the ICOM IC-7300. There are actually two models. The PMD-IC is a dual headphone headset whilst the PMS-IC is a single headset.

The scanning receiver has been around for a good many years now. There are still plenty of basic models around that cover FM and AM reception, but there are far fewer upmarket models around. Currently the leader are Icom and AOR.

Icom’s IC-R20 has been in production for quite a time and in recent times, more and more transmissions are digital. Icon clearly realised that they need to address this issue and the result is the announcement of their new IC-R30. This will offer decoding of D-Star as well as other digital modes. The demo model was unveiled at the recent Tokyo Ham Radio Fair and we have published what details we know so far in the from of a video.

ICOM ANNOUNCE IC-7610   November 14th, 2016

Icom’s IC-7600 has been a firm favourite for HF fans and rightly so. It offers great performance, and has a lovely front panel display and performance to match. But the launch of the IC-7300 SDR design earlier this year clearly has encouraged ICOM to build on this success and turn their attention to an up-markey model. The result is the aouncement of the IC-7610 at the recent Tokyo Ham Radio Fair. We have published a video on what we know so far about this radio. So please check it out.

HF Mobile Antennas   November 14th, 2016

I regularly take phone calls from hams who either want advice or have a problem about fitting an HF mobile antenna to their vehicle. There are totally different requirements for fitting HF antennas to a vehicle compared with that of fitting a VHF antenna. On HF the antenna is a much smaller fraction of a wavelength and the bandwidth is much narrower. Efficiency is also potentially much less and so a proper installation is absolutely key to bet performance.
