Icom are introducing a new external speaker for its revolutionary IC-7300 Software Designed Radio.

The new SP-38 has been specifically designed to complement the appearance of the IC-7300 as well as improving the listening experience from its large diameter speaker.

The SP-38 external speaker will be available in October. Projected price will be in the region of £135.

Jaycee Open Day 2016   September 22nd, 2016

Last month (August) we held the annual Open Day at Jaycee Electronics in Glenrothes Scotland. Myself and Justin G0KSC, together with our wives, made a flying visit up to Scotland for this event. It was a pretty hectic 24 hours! So here is the video that I made of the trip.

A long Gap   September 20th, 2016

It has been a while since I posted an entry here. Partly because I have been overseas for a while and partly because I have been busy with various projects, some of which are not related to ham radio. We are finally seeing things quietening down now on the ICOM IC-7300. It certainly has been a great success. But expect more from ICOM in the not too distant future.

I have been using the little KX2 for quite a while now and it certainly works very well. Most of my operation is portable or mobile. I have had a few contacts on CW whilst operating mobile with the KX2.  This only happens when my wife is driving, I hasten to add. But CW mobile does work quite well. Running ten watts into a mobile whip on 40m gets out quite well. I always use headphones for this. Firstly it eases concentration, and secondly CW is not very pleasant to listen to if you cannot read it!.

I have completed a couple of short videos as we’ll.  The first covers the MFJ-402 paddle keyer   and the other features the MFJ-225. Neither will win awards but hopefully they will interest those wanting a bit more hands on information.
