General News   October 28th, 2009

On October 19th Mark Francis gave a talk at Braintree and District Amateur Radio Society W&S regularly undertake talks at local clubs, not something many other firms do.

For three weeks from 5th – 25th October we were lucky enough to have a german exchange student, Lisa, working with us as part of an exchange program Rochford District runs with it’s twinned town of Haltern in Germany. We think she enjoyed her time here and know that we enjoyed having her here, introducing her to traditional British fish n’ chips and during her last week we took her out bowling in Hockley as you can see in the photo below.

And Finally…

This weekend see’s our last rally appearance of the year at the Llandudno Radio Rally, organised by North Wales Radio Society Mark Francis, Steve Hoy & Simon Wilkinson will be attending the W&S stand on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November, bringing you bargains galore! The event is held at Ysgol John Bright High School, Maesdu Road, Llandudno. LL30 1LF. For more information & directions check out the NWRS website

Chelmsford ARS Event Station   October 14th, 2009

On the 3rd October Chelmsford ARS had a special event station, GB70GB, at the Great Baddow Research Centre anniversary event, using a FLEX-3000 which they purchased from us here at Waters & Stanton PLC aided by a lottery grant. They will be following this up with a talk on the FLEX-5000 on 3rd November. Here are some photo’s and a report from the event by Murray G6JYB.

Am glad to report the Flex-3000 was the CARS frontline system for our Special Event Station GB70GB at the Great Baddow Research Centre anniversary event where we fed its screen into the main room projector for the public to watch (and also ran a small SDR-IQ as well)

I will say that getting suitable Firewire interface to work on the Flex was a challenge but once sorted it worked well.
(the only problem was on one band/contact where a really badly matched antenna let too much rf come down the coax outer to jam my laptop)

Following on from that it so happens that the next CARS talk is by Gwyn Williams on his bigger Flex-5000 on Tue Nov-3rd at MASC Beehive Lane.

The Radio Society of Great Britain backed the new National Hamfest in October at the Newark Showground organized by Clive Catton, G1BSN of the Lincoln Shortwave Club.

Waters & Stanton had the largest display manned by six staff. They all agreed that the new venue was clean, light and airy with great potential for future expansion.

Our huge stand at the exhibition. Everything but the kitchen sink was for sale.

Everyone liked the venue for the new National Show.

Icom showed sample of their new “all-round” transceiver the IC-9100 due in 2010.

National Hamfest   October 1st, 2009

Tomorrow Friday 2nd & Saturday 3rd October the first ever National Hamfest (in association with the Lincoln Short Wave Club and the RSGB) is held at Newark Showground in Nottinghamshire.

Waters & Stanton will of course be there, and Mark Francis, Jeff Stanton, Steve H, Steve D, Simon & James will be manning our huge stand, bulging with the latest products and bargains. We’ve also donated a Heil Headset to the prize draw.

We have produced a special National Hamfest offers leaflet, which you can pick up at the entrance or at our stand. Our stand is situated opposite the main entrance next to the meeting area / catering facilities, so why not pick our leaflet and study it while you take a load off & meet friends. Here is the floorplan:
